Berserker Student Veteran of the Year Award

The term "Berserker" evokes images of unwavering warriors in battle. In 2018, during a Vikings History class at Baylor, two student veterans learned about Norse "Berserkers" from their professor, Dr. Zori. These warriors were described as fearless and resolute in combat, known as 'warriors clothed in bearskin' or 'Warrior-Bears'. Inspired by this, the student veterans proposed the term as a mascot, of sorts, for our veteran community.
A warrior embodies an unwavering commitment to noble causes, striving for high achievements even in the face of failure. The term personifies fierce determination in the face of significant adversity. It is a name that each veteran claims as part of our identity – forged in our military training and experiences. As Baylor Bears, we uphold a legacy of servant-leadership. Thus, the "Berserker Award," presented to the student-veteran of the year, honors those who exemplify both identities—a relentless warrior and a compassionate servant leader.
If you know of a student veteran who exemplifies these values of service, leadership, community, and warrior spirit, please consider nominating them for this recognition: Nominate Here
